Hello radio amateurs, B.A.R.C. members, and friends,
This weekend is the fourth weekend in June, and that can only mean one thing. FIELD DAY! Field day is the most popular annual ham radio event, and with over 35,000 radio amateurs participating, it’s not hard to see why. It gives us all a chance to string up our wire antennas, set-up our equipment in a field expedient setting, spend some quality time with our friends, and make as many contacts as possible in 24 hours.
New to amateur radio? Hey, that’s OK, you can get on the air anyway. We have a station just for you and who knows, you may even pull in some super rare location! Field day is a great time to get to know a little about the hobby, operate some different equipment, and just hang out with us. Check out the ARRL’s “2016 ARRL Field Day is June 25-26” page for more information.
Are you ready to take your exam? We will be holding an exam session on Saturday, 25 June at 7:00 PM local. Bring $5.00 cash for each exam that you plan on attempting. You can find out more in the VE Testing page on this site. Good luck and we look forward to welcoming you among the ranks of amateur radio.
We have covered the what, and the who, but what about the where and when? OK, OK hold your horses. The Barstow Amateur Radio club will be holding this year’s field day at the Diamond Pacific Building at: 2620 West Main St.Barstow, Ca 92311 for the GPS types or right across the street from the Barstow CNG Fueling station for the GPS impaired. We will be arriving on location starting around 7:00AM to get set up. The field day contest does not officially begin until 11:00AM local on the 25th, so if you are a late sleeper, you won’t miss much. The event will end at precisely 2:00PM Local on Sunday.
Oh, did I mention the food? Yep, we will feed you as well! So whether you’re new to ham radio, a seasoned radio veteran, or just plain hungry, come on down! We look forward to seeing you there!
